As most of you know, Zion has received word that we are again receiving a vicar to serve at our congregation this coming year. He will arrive at the end of July or early August, and plans are being made to welcome him and his soon-to-be wife Jenny to our congregation. We look forward to getting to know both of them better, but for now, Benjamin has sent us a brief bio to enjoy
My name is Benjamin Wessel. I am concluding my second year of studies
at Concordia Theological Seminary—Ft Wayne, and am honored to be
placed as your vicar for 2023-2024! I was raised in an LCMS pastor’s
family in Spring Valley, Minnesota, where I was homeschooled through
high school. I studied philosophy at Bethany Lutheran College, where I
earned by bachelor’s degree in 2018. Following graduation, I moved
overseas to teach English at a private university in northern China,
and returned to the States in 2021 to attend seminary. I have a strong
love of theology, studying languages, and teaching, and greatly look
forward to getting to know you all over the next year! I hope that I
can get involved in the life of your church and grow in my ability to
teach and serve in a congregational setting.
In July my fiancée Jenny and I are getting married at her home
congregation in Nebraska. She is a pastor’s daughter and recent
graduate (class of ‘23) of Concordia University Nebraska, where she
studied church music. We are both very excited to spend our first year
of marriage with you in Mitchell! We are honored to be welcomed into
your congregation for the year, and look forward to becoming a part of
your congregation’s life!
As Benjamin and his fiancée prepare for their wedding and move to Mitchell, please lift them and our congregation up in prayer, that God would bless both them and us in the coming year, and use this year of vicarage for the upbuilding of his church.
